Paolo Mangiola is a dancer, choreographer and dance educator based in Rome and London. After his degree he joined Aterballetto in 2001 where he performed works by William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Jacopo Godani and Mauro Bigonzetti. Paolo went on the Tanztheatre Nürnberg in Germany in 2005 where he worked with choreographers such as Daniela Kurz, Andre Gingras, Jorma Elo, Stijn Celis and Rui Horta. Paolo joined Wayne McGregor|Random Dance in 2008 and Wayne’s practice allowed Paolo to become an integral part in the development and delivery of his work. In 2012 Paolo was invited by Wayne McGregor to join his talk at the Edinburgh TED global. Paolo has created choreographic works for the Royal Ballet, Aterballetto, Tanztheatre Nürnberg and Balletto di Roma and his pieces have been performed in Italy, Norway, Germany and the UK. In 2014 he created a piece for the online cultural platform Nowness. He has also collaborated with visual artists and composers such as Martin Creed, Meiro Kuzumi, Dag Rosenqvist and Donal Sarsfield. Paolo graduated with a MA in choreography in 2015 and is currently part of the faculty at the English National Ballet School. He has been appointed associate choreographer and is curating the department of contemporary dance at the school of Balletto di Roma for the seasons 2015/2018. Paolo is now a guest dancer in Cullbergbaletten’s production Figure a Sea.
