Barry Brannum, born 1991 in Anchorage, Alaska is a dancer, choreographer, and MA/PhD student in UCLA’s World Arts & Cultures/ Dance department. After attending the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, Barry graduated from Princeton University in 2013 with an AB (Honors) in English and a Certificate in Dance. His current research investigates representations of African-American respectability politics in the realm straddling popular culture and concert dance. Barry has freelanced with a number of Los Angeles based choreographers including Laurel Tentindo, Alison D'Amato, Lionel Popkin, alexx makes dances (Alexx Shilling), and Kevin Williamson; he will also appear in the latest iteration of Ann Carlson's Symphonic Body project this season. Barry is a guest dancer with Cullbergbaletten in the production Figure a Sea.
